Legal Question in Traffic Law in Colorado

Suspension of my driving license for an invalid reason

I was given a traffic ticket in Louisville, Colorado for improper lane change and NOT for the DUI of alcohol. I was asked to appear in the court and I missed that court date unfortunately. But I went THEIR the very next day and the clerk gave me two options 1. pay the fine and dismiss the case OR take another date to contest. I chose the first option, paid her, she gave me the recipt and she said its taken care of. Two weeks later I got a letter in the mail which says my license is supended for DUI of alcohol. BUT this NEVER happ. I was NOT drunk. there was no mention of alcohol and no BAC test was taken. How can they suspend it for an invalid reason?? Has this to do with me not appearing in the court on the court date?? but I did go there the nest day.. please help me.. what should I do ? Would they not cocnsider me going to the court the next day and doing what exactly the government official asked me to do? can they suspend my license for not showing up on the court date for ONE year?? when I showed up the next day? I am really tensed. please help me.

Re: Suspension of my driving license for an invalid reason

You should immediately contact the DMV and request a hearing on the suspension of your license. You can *try* to explain the issue to the DMV over the phone, but more likely, you're going to have to appear at a DMV hearing and explain that they have made an error. I also strongly advise you to consult with a lawyer at this point, because you are going to need to establish that the traffic charge was not a DUI charge. Please feel free to call or email me to discuss this in more depth.
