Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

no will what now

My father died without a will and I am the only child, he had no spouse. How do I prove I am the sole heir for his estate?

You should seek advice from an experienced estate lawyer in Colorado. You may be opening his estate as an intestate estate (that's an estate for someone who has died without a Will). In the estate process, your father's heirs will be listed and that is how you would prove your heirship.

Such an estate can involve doing a report for the Court about who the heirs are and also administering the estate property and transferring it to the estate beneficiaries.

Assuming your father's domicile was in Colorado, Colorado's intestacy laws will govern how your father's estate is distributed and to whom. You may need to open a probate estate here to determine your father's heirs and administer his estate. On the other hand, you may be able to wind up your father's affairs and distribute his property by a small estate, depending on the value of your father's estate. Please consult an attorney in Colorado to determine what will be required in your particular situation.
