Can I keep my car if I owe creditors and I plan to file for bankruptcy? Are creditors allowed to take my car. I am on limited income from S.S.I.

Thank you for your time

Re: bankruptcy

Your income is safe. Your car is safe. You need to reaffirm the financing contract. I am sure you have enough of an exemption to cover any equity in the vehicle. Please feel free to contact me for more information about bankruptcy so that I may check on that exemption for you. 203.870.6700

Re: bankruptcy

If you owe money on the car, you will have to keep up the payments in order to keep it. Otherwise, you can keep it after filing bankruptcy if you can claim it as exempt - which usually you can, but it may depend where you live and what other property you want/need to claim as exempt.
