Legal Question in Business Law in Connecticut

LLC and equity promises

Can the owner of an LLC (one owner/member) provide equity options to his employees? Are there limitations? I've heard that this is not possible but have many varying opinions. This is key to a friend that is staying in a job and ''hoping'' for the windfall.
