Legal Question in Technology Law in Connecticut

Is this Legal? and What Can Be Done About It?

Hello. I purchased a software product from a vendor 5 years ago. The vendor has disabled my software from working, forcing me to pay for their latest version. They say that they do not support the old version, which is fine. But can they just turn-off my software -- it operates independently. I filed a suit in small claims court, and would like to file a class action suit if possible.

That is a very interesting legal question. I do not know the answer but something tells me that, unless this issue has been addressed before, I think a tech lawyer would be interested. You should seek out a few and speak to them.

Interesting indeed. But, the very simple analysis starts from a careful read of your licensing and/or terms of use agreement. If rights were reserved in the contract to block usage after a new version was issued, chances are you are out of luck. I suspect that buying the new version would be much cheaper than paying a LawGuru $500+/hr to figure it out.

And, do not email me anymore about this. Retain an attorney -- not me.
