Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut

On October 27, 2009 I had reason to be at Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport for several hours. During that time I entered the TGIF Restaurant located within the Delta terminal- concourse E. The time was approximately 1600. I ordered a garden salad with dressing, as did my companion, and an an appetizer plate which I intended to share with my companion.

The salads were delivered and we both began to eat. I noticed my salad was crunchy and I attributed that to the extras pepper I had added, the crouton or the fresh crispy lettuce. I asked my travel companion if her's was “crunchy”? She responded with a simple “no”. I then began to investigate the salad further, after noticing that I was having an exceedingly difficult time chewing the food and getting it into smaller pieces.

After manually digging through the salad I noticed what appeared to be multiple small and medium sized chunks of plastic. I immediately called over the waiter and quietly stated, “There's chunks of plastic in my salad, I'm not paying for this”. He apologized and removed the salad from the table.

Moments later the kitchen manager approached the table and apologized. I stated to him that I was simply in shock knowing that I had been eating and grinding down pieces of plastic that were in my salad. He responded by saying, “That was not plastic, those were pieces of plate”. Exacerbated I asked, “plate”? He responded with, “yes, I don't know how they got in your salad”. He proceeded to offer to call an ambulance, which I declined. Subsequently he took down my personal information and offered me his business card. He stated that a report would be filed with his insurance company. The meal was provided complementary. We tipped the waiter and departed the facility in disgust.

This incident has caused me a considerable amount of stress, discomfort and anxiety. I expect my restaurant food to be free of harmful foreign substances such as pieces of ceramic plates. I have become very reserved and apprehensive when it comes to eating airport food as a result of this incident and will never visit another TGIF restaurant. I travel very frequently and dine out even more frequently, suffice to say I have never experienced a situation such as the one I have described that has caused me such duress and disgust. The feeling of grinding ceramic plate still resonates with me even as I write this account.

As a result of my mental duress due to the negligence of TGIF can i expect to be compensated?
