Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut

Not sure what to do.

I recently with with my wife went appartment hunting. We found something, and applied. The next day we called to check in on our status, and the leasing agent said there was a problem with my background check. The company they use had found some criminal charges, and they could not give us an apartment untill everything was cleared up. So, I called the search people up, and played their game to get my rap sheet sent to me. They listed 3 felony charges, and one misdomenor. I then said well hey this is wrong, and that I had just two months ago updated my clearance with my military job, and they had found nothing. So, we then went to out local police station, and tehy printed out a page saying that I have no criminal background anywhere, which i then faxed to the search company. They said there is nothing they could do, and that their hands are tied. I need to know why this company found a record for me, which is false (according to the court house the person charged with these has a different middle name then mine), can be changed. They really don't want to do anything even though I have proof. I need help. I don't know what to do!

Re: Not sure what to do.

I answered just to say how much I like Atty. Magwood's answer. However, I also think that having an attorney contact the leasing agent may offer more answers to your big "WHY?!" question. At the very least it can not hurt to have someone else contact the agency with regard to the matter. Feel free to drop me an email if I can help.

You can sue the seach company for defamation. Not sure it will help at this point to get you into the apartment.
