Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Connecticut

credit card finances charges after date of death

If a person dies, isn't that account closed as of their date of death? I have handled 2 estates in the past 2 years and this has been the way 15 other credit card companies have explained it to me. This 1 company, Advanta has not been able to show me anywhere within their credit card agreement statements where they ca legally keep tacking finance charges onto the account after the date of death of the only account cardholder.

If it's not in their agreement (I'm not sure it's valid even if it was in the agreement)then even more reason why they shouldn't be able to collect the fees.

I don't know of any law that says a credit card account is closed upon death. You might want to check the federal fair credit laws. You may find your answer there.
