Legal Question in Elder Law in Connecticut

My grandfather wants to give us his house, however he has title 19 for both him and my deceased grandmother, and therefore we think he will have a lein on it when he passes. Can we even take over the house with that or what are the ways to get the house?

This is not a simple answer. First of all, you need to find out if there is a lien. You can do that by going down to the land records at the town hall where your grandfather lives. (the land records clerks are usually very helpful) If the lien is as large as the equity in the house then it is doubtful whether it's all worth it. However, there are special rules regarding what a spouse can keep under Title 19 so it would be best if you consulted with a lawyer who specializes in this type of law.
