Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut

Hi. My husband and I were in a car accident 2 1/2 years ago. The other drive was cited for reckless driving at the scene and my husband was hurt. he suffered from a serious concussion and it was out of work for 6 months recovering. Last November (Nov 2015) my husband sued the driver of the car and the driver's wife for his medical expenses and other costs. I was unaware at the time he sued that he had done so.

I want to participate in the lawsuit. Do I simply file a notice of appearance or is there more involved than that? We live in the state of Connecticut.
