Legal Question in Immigration Law in Connecticut

Immigrants obtaining drivers license

Can an immigrant of proper age from South Africa here on a religious visa with a teaching job in a Christian School, obtain a Connecticut drivers license although they have never held a drivers license in South Africa? If so how would they go about doing this?

Re: Obtaining drivers license

I'm not from CT but the usual process is to take your passport with valid visa and your social security card (which you obtained because you needed to open a bank account) down to the local DMV. They have a driver education book that you will want to take and study. When you're ready to take the test, you can probably schedule an appointment for the test.

The test will consist of two components - a written test on rules of the road and penalties for different offenses, and an on the road driving test. To take the one the road test, you must use a vehcile with valid registration and insurance.

Teenagers can tell you all about the test - it's one of their favorite topics of conversation and they are happy to have the opportunity to help you out. No big deal if you fail several times before you pass, that's what happened to me. It's all about experience.
