Legal Question in Insurance Law in Connecticut

accidental death policy claim

My 67 yr old mother died from a fall down 6 stairs landing in the cellar. Globe Life & Accidental death Ins. co. has been giving me the run around since 3/07 always requesting different info . I have sent all info they have requested. They have requested and recieved all medica records from her 6 doctors. They've turned the case over to their attorneys hands. The coroner has ruled her death ''Accidental'' and has stated, to me, she would still be alive if it wasn't for the fall. Their attys say they have information to the contrary to the cause of her death, which I don't understand how they can since no one saw her fall and they certainly weren't there. They haven't even asked to see the accident scene. What is the length of time an ins co has to make a decision one way or the other on payment on claims? This has been very frustrating because everytime I need to contact them, I am reminded of the reason why, the death of my mother.

Re: accidental death policy claim

I am sorry about your mother. In general an insurer must respond within 15 days to communication regarding claims. Obviously I can not tell what they are trying to accomplish without seeing the documents and the policy. Three months is not a terribly long time to settle a claim, but if you want to talk about it more, please let me know.
