Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Connecticut

Two attorneys have said that my 16 year old grandson in dcf custody can refuse dcf guardianship and leave the system of his own free will. Dcf told him that isn't true and if he leaves they will send the police after him. What is the correct answer?

First, I recommend looking at the statutes here : http://www.portal.ct.gov/DCF/Policy-Homepage/Regulations/Subsidized-Guardianship Second: Find a Family Attorney you are comfortable with and trust and listen to them. Finally, a sixteen year old can become emancipated from their parents, but I am not sure if DCF loses jurisdiction if that should happen. See below : “A minor over the age of sixteen who, like the minor child here, voluntarily lives apart from her parents who exercise and attempt to exercise no control over her activities is emancipated by operation of common law... Further, that minor is a party who may petition, as may her parents, for an order of emancipation pursuant to General Statute §46b-150b...” Town v. Anonymous, 39 Conn. Sup. 35, 38, 467 A.2d 687 (1983).
