Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

smoking in the workplace

I know that smoking in the workplace is prohibited. I work from 8:30 - 4:30 and my lunch hour is from 1-2 (and not to mention that I do have a very stressfull job). Do I have a right to have a ''cigarette'' brake during my working hours. I usually take 5 minutes brake in the morning hours and one in the afternoon hours and now that just might cost me my job. I was told that other than my lunch hour it is unexceptable for me to use ANY other brakes. There are other co-workers who do take longer brakes and supervisor is informed of that but that is o.k. I am getting very upset, I love my job and I do not want to look for another one unless I really have to. Please help me know my rights. Thank you

Re: smoking in the workplace

Unfortunately you do not have any legal right to a cigarette break.
