Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Connecticut

I just bought a 3 family home and want to evict the old tenants

My wife and I have just bought a 3 family home and the last owner really got taken advantage of. She never had the last tenants sign a lease. We are now the owners and she has told us that they are ''problem'' tenants. We want them out! Can any body tell us if they have the same rights a tenant with a lease or can we get them out as squatters and have them evicted rightaway, since we have signed no lease with them? Thanks for the speedy advice guys!

In CT, an oral lease is usually a month to month lease. The lease must be terminited by service of a Notice to Quit possession and, if the tenents do not leave, an action for eviction, would have to be started. The Landlord/tenant law is almost entirely in favor of the tenant, so every step must be followed exactly. I would advise you to see an attorney rather then trying to do it yourself. You could end up loosing more rent money then the attorney's fee would cost. Tom Noonan 203 639-9838
