Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Connecticut

illegal church giving

Is it legal for a church to ask a member for their personal financial information (eg. debts, mortgage, bills, grocery=monthly expense report) and force them to sign a document to pay a certain amount based upon the fact that the church is trying to retire a debt.

Re: illegal church giving

You use the words "legal" and "force."

Anyone can ask anyone anything. Whether you want to volunteer this information is up to you.

No one can force you to sign anything. (unless they threaten you with physical harm)

Is there a written contract that you entered into that says you agree to give out this personal information to the church and sign the proposed document under certain circumstances? If so, I am not sure the contract is valid. I would have to see it.

Based upon the limited facts of your question, it appears you need to find a new church.
