Legal Question in Personal Injury in Connecticut

My daughter was in a car accident 1 year ago. It was her vehicle and someone else was driving because she did not feel well. The air bag deployed and hit her in the face causing an eye injury. She did have her glasses on and did go to the hospital and the eye specialist the next day and for several days during the next month. The injury consisted of blood covering her cornea. She was out of work for a month because she was on bed rest to see if the clot disolved by itself. It did not which resulted in surgery about three weeks later to remove the blood clot. The surgery was very successful however the Dr. said she may develope a cateract or other eye problems earlier than normal because of the trauma to her eye. Her health insurance paid all the medical bills aside from the copays and she was compensated for the loss of the car. The car insurance company contacted her a month ago to offer a settlement for the injury of $6000. We declined this offer. She is only 23 years old and we didn't think $6000 was enough to consider this matter closed at this point. Did we do the right thing? and how much do you think we should settle for when asked again? I don't want to be greedy but $6000 won't even pay for a cateract operation if needed down the road, not to mention her being so young. Thank you for your help.

This sounds like it might be a good personal injury case that a lawyer might be able to significantly increase the amount of settlement you may obtain. You should consult with a PI lawyer very soon as your claim has a two year statute of limitation. It seems it may be ripe to settle. I would want review the medical records, notes and police report. The settlement potential is clearly well in excess of what was offered.
