Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

apartments

Are apartments allowed to charge you $400, on top of your $450 security deposit, after you move out? They claim that I ruined the carpet so they have to charge us $800 total to replace the carpet. Our security deposit was only $450 and I moved out a month ago. Now they're saying that we owe them an extra $400 for the carpet.

Re: apartments

The apartment is allowed to demand payment for all damages to the apartment resulting from your occupancy of the apartment. The amount of the security deposit does not limit the amount of damages that the landlord can collect.
