Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Joint Ownership

I am having trouble making my mortgage payments and can not refinance due to credit problems. A friend has offered to buy the house from the bank and allow me to pay him. Both our names would go on the title and when I pay him off the house will go back to being solely mine. Is this possible and legal?

Re: Joint Ownership

Its possible but that is not the way I would do it. It is way to risky to put someone's name on the property and hope that it removed on some condition in the future. It would be better if your friend paid the mortgage and you gave him a new mortgage. I would speak with an attorney before you do anything. There is a lot to loose. Sit down with an attorney and get all the options you may have. I would not do the one you are suggesting. Thanks, Tom Noonan
