Legal Question in Traffic Law in Connecticut

Hit and Run Driver

How long does someone have to report a hit-and-run accident in the state of connecticut? What are the penalties for a hit and run with some personal property damage?

(I was hit and tried to report about 12 hours later, and the police refuse to take a report. I did speak with 911 and a trooper at the time of the accident, have all info about car type and license plate)

Thanks,

Rob

Re: Hit and Run Driver

If you called 911 at the time of the accident, I have no idea why the police would not accept your filing of a complaint within a 12 hour period. I don't even know why they did not respond to the 911 call. Have you contacted the police department's internal affairs division or the Chief's office to make an appointment to make a complaint against the officer who refused to take your complaint? If not, I would do so asap. If you have the information on the vehicle who hit you, I see no reason why they would not take your complaint or statement. Call for an appointment with them to investigate. Tom Noonan
