Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

Brother died without a will.

I was his Conservator at the time. He ended up in a Convalescent home. Then he was dropped out of bed and this injury led to his death. I was trying to get him home prior to this happening. I spent alot of time and money trying to keep his house for him. I got all the medical records contacted a lawyer to start the lawsuit and turned it over to my neice. My neices recieved 83,000 dollars a piece and did'nt even offer to pay me for time or money spent helping her father. Neither one of them were involved in their fathers care. I've his things in storage for 4 years also. Am I entitled to any compensation.

Re: Brother died without a will.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Conservators are entitled to compensation for their services. After your brother's death, your compensation would be a claim against the estate.

As far as the money your nieces received for the lawsuit, you would have had to be named in the lawsuit as a plaintiff to be entitled to any award of damages, so it depends on what approach was taken in the lawsuit.

To be compensated for your services as conservator, you would need to file a claim against your brother's estate. You can also file a claim of reimbursement of expenses, if you continued to maintain his house after he died. All of this would happen through the probate court that is probating your brother's estate.
