Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

my father died without a will and I was under 18. my mother was supposed to set up an account. she remarried and never did that. she left her estate in a trust left to my stepfather. he says i only get the joint life insurance when he dies. is this true? i get nothing from my dad's estate.

It all depends on how large your father's estate was at the time of his death. Since he had no will, his estate passed intestate ( per the CT statutes which provide the amount and order of distribution). I'm not sure why you state your mother was supposed to set up an account.

If you were supposed to inherit something from your father's estate when he died and you did not get what you were supposed to because your mother did not do what she was supposed to, then you may have a claim against your mother's estate. I say "may" because I would need to know more facts to determine if you do have a claim.
