Legal Question in Consumer Law in Delaware

Repaying Auto Loan

I purchased a car last year in one state and got it registered through the dealer. I moved this year and tried to register the car in this state and have been unable to do so because the VIN on the vehicle is different from the paper work I received during the initial purchase. The VIN is off by 5 different characters. Now I have been unable to drive this vehicle legally for over 6 months. I informed my finance company of this situation and only after going through the DMV in 3 states to get this corrected. They have not offered any assistance in correcting this situation. The dealer is now out of business and unreachable, I've contacted the attorney generals office of 2 states seeking advice and have received some advice but the situation is still not resolved and I still do not have tags on this vehicle. My question is am I still required to pay this loan even though the documentation is all invalid so to speak and the vehicle cannot be registered without a clean title? Please advise on what to do. I don't mind paying for the vehicle but I don't see how I can be held responsible for this mess up especially since I can't drive said vehicle.

Re: Repaying Auto Loan

You should have an Attorney write a Strongly Worded letter to the dealer to either provide proper title or cover your legal expenses to do so.

Pay your loan but keep all records re: registration and payments made to date.
