Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in District of Columbia

Hello! Please advice. I'm russian citizen and I've been to US 3 times. First time there in 2007 I did bad but fun thing with my debit card so I went aprox. 1000 in minus. Hoped to pay it back after when I have enough money. Neve had problems. But now debt collectors start calling to the phone # which I gave when I was opening my account. Didn't talk to them yet.

Had problem with other card at this year - my bad. Car rental took money when the balance was close to $0 so went to minus also. Could I have problems? Be arrested? How can I pay everything back and forget about it? Thank you!!

No, you cannot be arrested for a civil debt, but your

credit record has likely been negatively impacted for the next seven years or so

irrespective of whether or not you now "pay everthing back" that may be owed.
