Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia

Illegal Gift Card Purchase

I bought a hot gift card and used it. I didn't know it was stolen. Now I'm a witness and possibly a suspect because I didn't call the police when I found out. My wife was with me the whole time but was also unaware and didn't see a thing. The agents want to speak to her and she doesn't want to speak. How can she legally remain silent?

Re: Illegal Gift Card Purchase

You both need attorneys, and you should not have the same attorney. You should both exercise your right to remain silent and retain lawyers right away.

Re: Illegal Gift Card Purchase

First, you did the right thing in reaching out for legal help and second you have done the right thing for yourself by not speaking to authorities unrepresented. Please give me a call when you get this either tonight or tomorrow. My number is on my website. We can then discuss in further detail your options. Also if you would like to see a bit more about my criminal defense practice you can visit my website at http://www.criminallawdc.com

I look forward to hearing from you.
