Slander/or Defamation

If someone writes something negative and demeaning about

you in a report and then sends

it to a list server for 20 some other

folks to view is this slander/or

defamation? Also, can any

legal action be taken against this

individual for doing this sort

of degrading this? If so, what do

you suggestion?

This type of question comes up quite frequently now in this and other legal question forums involving alleged defamation by way of the Internet.

The answers to these inquiries seem to persistenly suggest (in my opinion) that although such actions may be technically defaming of the person or persons referenced, they most often fail for a variety of reasons to cross the quite high threshhold necessary to constitute provable defamation in most jurisdictions.
