Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in District of Columbia

Questions about estate taxes.

Here is my big problem. After the death of my father I was the primary beneficiary of his estate. Part of the estate included a condo that was already in my name (joint tenancy right of survivorship) and a IRA that was rolled over into my name.

My question is this: I was told at first that these items were outside of the taxable estate many months ago, only to be told that they are. What is the real deal here? Am I being had?

It may very well depend upon who told you and whether he/she/they knew what they were talking about.
