Legal Question in Workers Comp in District of Columbia

getting a job

I am getting ready to go to court for total permanent disabitlity. IF I am awarded it and a settlement is agreed upon, (one lump sum)instead of weekly checks, and my case is closed, because I settled, am I allowed to get a job after that if I would be able to. (such as if I have another surgery etc.)

Re: getting a job

It's unlikely that the insurance carrier would agree to the lump sum settlement for your purported total permanent disability for the reason to which you've already alluded, i.e., the possibility that in the future you might be employed in another capacity at another job which might well allow them to either reduce or even eliminate your disability payments entirely.
