Legal Question in Family Law in Dominican Republic

Divorce from a foreign spouse residing in his native country

I need a divorce from my husband who is a native of the Dominican Republic and currently resides there. His petition for permanent residency, filed through me, was denied so travel to this country to participate in a hearing would be difficult. I am looking for the easiest, fastest way to get a divorce. The divorce will be uncontested and involves no property or children. It is my understanding that a dicorce in the Dominican would not be recognized in Ohio. In addition, since we haven't resided together for many years, I believe it is possible to have the divorce granted the date we last resided together if we process the divorce here. My question is regarding what regulations there are for processing the paperwork with someone in another country. Are we simply able to send him the papers, have him sign them and send them back to be processed or are there regulations regarding conducting this across country lines? Thank you.

A divorce in the Dominican Republic would have to be recognized in Ohio. Your husband is a citizen and a resident of the Dominican Republic. Dominican courts would have the same jurisdiction as Ohio courts would.
