Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Florida

Someone told me that they sued the federal government and won. Is this possible? If so, are the court documents showing the ruling available for public viewing?

Yes, this is possible. The Federal Tort Claims Act provides a limited waiver of the federal government's sovereign immunity when its employees are negligent within the scope of their employment. Under the FTCA, the government can only be sued 'under circumstances where the United States, if a private person, would be liable to the claimant in accordance with the law of the place where the act or omission occurred.' 28 U.S.C. S 1346(b).

Federal Court documents may be available through PACER http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/. The decisions of the court are only usually available if the court renders a written, published opinion.
