Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida

Joint Credit Card

Myself and mother shared a joint credit card. She was the co-signer because of lack of credit on my behalf. She filed bankruptcy and now the bankruptcy appears on my credit report although the debt was paid off as scheduled. Why is the bankruptcy appearing on my credit report?

Re: Joint Credit Card

Thanks for your posting. The answer depends on exactly what is listed on your credit report. If they listed "charged off due to cosigners bankruptcy", then that information is correct, and it does not state that you declared bankruptcy.

If, on the other hand, it states that you filed bankruptcy, and contains case information, that is incorrect, and you will need to challenge that with the credit card company.

Re: Joint Credit Card

This is a big problem today. You will need to dispute the rating given by the various credit companies. It is not a short or easy process but can be done.
