Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida

Served a judgement in a different state

I lived in NJ and supposedly was served a judgement by a creditor (filed 8/2004). I established residency in FL on 6/2004. The same creditor was included in a Ch 7 bankruptcy that I filed in 05 and discharged in 05. The judgement appears on my CR and was also mentioned in my bankruptcy. What happens to that judgement? And since I was living in FL when I got served in NJ, don't I get to reply to the judgement, does it still hold water?

Re: Served a judgement in a different state

If the judgment was unsecured it was discharged in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If it was secured by real or personal property, it probably survived bankruptcy and is tied to the property.Whether you served in NJ is probably not important because the contractual arrangment probably conferred jurisdiciton to the NJ courts. NJ probably has a long-arm statute which allows the Courts to have personal jurisdiction over individuals who have conducted business transactions or contractual obligations within the state, despite having their domicile in other states.
