Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

change of venue

I have a client who is suing me for breach of contract. They are located in FL. I am in MD. All work is performed in MD as that is where we are located. Can I request a change of venue to MD or can FL implement MD law as the governing law?

Re: change of venue

Florida may not have jurisdiction. It would depend on the facts. Whether Florida law applies or Maryland law depends on the contract (sometimes, it says) and the specific facts. Contracts often have a venue provision that would aplly as well.

Re: change of venue

It depends. If your contract did not specify, then it will really depend upon the facts. Is this dispute arising out of your acts in Florida; did you have a store located here?
