Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Contract Dispute

I hired a company to plan my 10 year high school reunion in January 2007. I cancelled the contract in the time alloted on the contract and the company continued planning after the fact, by only a few days. Those few days resulted in an additional $500 they expect me to pay. The company is a local private company and is now threatening collections or small claims court, neither of which I would like to endure. The company still has my yearbook and the names of all my classmates. My question is, am I expected legally to pay for services completed after the cancellation of the contract and can the company keep my property until the issue is resolved or is that theft?

Re: Contract Dispute

As you have descibed this, you would not owe money for something they incurred after the contract was cancelled. No, they cannot keep your property.
