Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Traveler's Cheques

I work for a jewelry store, and I accepted a $500 travelers cheque, I watched the man sign the cheque and the signature matched which is all I was supposed to do. It turns out that the woman he was with had done this before and we had a warning with her picture about this. This woman was heavier and had much darker hair in the picture. But, now my company is coming after me for the $500. If I did what I was supposed to do, I do not think I should pay. Please help me.

I do not believe that the company can hold you liable for the bad traveler's cheque. Unfortunately, they can decide to terminate your employment though which could be far more severe as Florida is a right to work state and there is no guarantee of any continued employment at any time. Employers can hire and fire without cause.
