Legal Question in Technology Law in Florida

Forced to share email password

I know of a situation where a boss is forcing her whole

staff to disclose their email password. She cited the

Sunshine Law as justification and said the computer is

no different than pencil and is property of the company.

Is this legal?

Re: Forced to share email password

Your employer has a right to know any passwords used to access company records, computers or databases. In most offices with on-site technicians, the company has the ability to override the password in the event the employee is let go, sick, or for any other reason. They may also monitor and track all activity while you are at work. If the employer is asking for passwords to personal e-mail accounts, bank accounts etc. then they may be overstepping their bounds.
