Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Car sold ''as is'' and breaks down?

My parents bought a car for my brother the couple ''as is'' said the car was in good condition, but breaks down a day later. Do they have any rights. They were misled to believe this vehicle was OK to drive?

Re: Car sold ''as is'' and breaks down?

It is extremely unlikely. "As is," means "as is." You would need to prove that they knew about the particular defect and expressly lied about it. A very tough standard and unlikely to be successfully pursued.

"As is" provides virtually no protection unless you can prove the seller lied and knew of the problem.
