Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

damage to vehicle while in mechanic's possession

Our vehicle was broken into twice while at a repair shop for an extended period of time. The first time, a window was broken but nothing was taken. The second time, 2 visor style television screens were stolen and a hidden spare key. One of the mechanics skipped town the next day. The proprietor has said that the mechanic will be charged with the thefts but appears to feel responsible for reimbursing us for the window, the tv screens, or the cost of changing the locks on the car. The car was kept at the shop for many weeks due to the company's negligence in fixing it in a timely manner. Is the owner liable?
