Statute of limitation on old bebt

What's the SOL in florida on old credit card accounts? My sister defaulte on a credit card payment in 2002 and now she is being pursue by a collection agency for this debt. In her credit report this will be reported until 2009. She sent a validation letter to this people and she is waiting on info. Can they legally sue her? can she claim SOL?

the statute of limitations on the breach of a written contract is 5 yeras. That generally runs from the time of the breach -- here, the failure to pay as required under the contract. The period can be lengthened (or statrts again) if there is a partial payment or some acknowledgement of the debt, but that area of the law gets very fact specific.
