Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Stopped check

My husband is a licensed handyman. He was hired to replace a front door for Mr X. Mr. X signed a contract for the services rendered. Payment was made after finishing. My husband then cashed the check at Mr. X's bank(which happens to be our bank)on June 5,2008. On 6/12/2008 the bank issued a letter to us that Mr X had put a stop payment on the check and that the amount of the check has been charged to our account creating an overdraft in the $100's. What do we have to do to recover the funds, plus overdraft?

Re: Stopped check

find out why the stop payment was issued. contact Mr. X and tell him what charges you incurred. If the stop payment was wrongful, which it appears to be, then he is responsible. If he will not make it right, file a claim in small claims court.check
