Did he steal your identity to obtain a credit card? If so, that's a crime and you must immediately report to the authorities. You should also inform the credit card agency that you are victim of identity theft and will not be responsible for the debt.

If your son was an authorized user of the credit card, then you are on the hook for the balance.

If your son did this with your knowledge and you did nothing, you are liable. Otherwise this is identity theft and could result in criminal charges being laid against your son.

That being said, you can inform that credit card company; generally, you will have to file a police report and notify the credit reporting agencies.

I hope this was helpful.
