Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Someone charging credit on a mentaly disabled persons credit

My aunt has a few conditions in which she receives a Social Securtiy check for. She has a lady that befriended her and charged over $50,000 in debt to her credit and now does not want to pay. Who do I need to contact to help in this situation?

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

I would suggest that first call the police to report this crime. Secondly, you need to call the credit card company and immediately stop the credit card or obtain a new one and let them know what has happened.

Unfortunately, your aunt may be held responsible for the debt which has accrued with or without her permission. In order to try and resolve this I would then suggest a consultation with a qualified attorney who could review the facts and advise her on any liability or possible remedies would be extremely important.
