Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Credit Card Debt and leaving the country

I have recently aquired a large credit card debt close to $60,000 spread between 7 credit cards. Iam on H1B visa and I just got laid off, I have to leave the country by law. I am selling my house at a huge loss, and leaving the country for good. Can debt collectors track me down overseas? Can they sue me in a foreign country? What is the worst case scenario? Can they issue a warrant for my arrest if I ever come back to the US?

Re: Credit Card Debt and leaving the country

You could be sued. This will pobably happen in the U.S. if these are U.S. credit cards. It's possible that the creditors could track you down overseas, though it's pretty unlikely. It's isn't a crime to fail to pay your credit card debt unless they can prove you ran up the debt with no intention of ever paying the debt back, so it's extremely unlikely a warrant will be issued.
