Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

We sued a contractor for work paid for and not completed. We hired a lawyer, who turned a 2500 lawsuit to a 10,000 case. We won the case, but the defendant filed bankrupsy. Now our lawyer is making us pay the $10,000. Is this legal? What are our options? We have been paying the lawyer 500.00 per month so he does not sue us, but this just does not seem right!!

Why doesn't it seem right? It stinks that the contractor got out of his obligation by filing bankruptcy, I agree. But that doesn't mean the lawyer doesn't deserve to get paid for the work he did. I don't know that you have any options except to offer some sort of settlement to the lawyer or to file bankruptcy yourselves. Was the contractor bonded? Have you attempted to get money from the bond?
