Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Unfair Landlord

Landlord withheld deposit after long and nasty legal battle. We did not dispute as we felt cheated already and did not want the hassle again. Shortly thereafter he sent letter stating we owe additional $525.00 as we did not give enough notice we were leaving. This was not in lease agreement and he already took deposit. Without notice or warning, this shows up on credit report when we tried to get another apartment, which we were denied. Could he do this? What could we do to have this taken off without having to submit to his unfair tactics? This all happened within a few months

You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. You can dispute the item with the credit bureaus. If the former landlord persists in its claim, they will not remove the item. Your only recourse then is to file suit to challenge the claims made by the landlord and to ask for your costs and fees in pursuing the action.
