What does the term adjudication withheld mean in a criminal case?

I believe it means that no final judgment has been entered. Like Georgia's first offender plea, if the defendant is successful in completing the terms and conditions of the sentence, then the case stands as dismissed. On the other hand, if the defendant does not successfully complete the sentence, then he can be brought back before the court and sentenced as if he had plead not guilty, gone to trial and been convicted.
