Allegations of child abuse
My boyfriend and I were accused of child abuse by my 6 year old son. Were are currently under criminal investigation. My son had bruises but were not from abuse. We did admit that we spank him. What kind of evidence do the police need to make an arrest? Also the allegations my son made contradict each other, so can they even be used? And at the time of report the police determined that no criminal action had occured, but now a month has gone by and we were notified of ''an intensive investigation'' being conducted into the report, I am a little confused and unfortunately cannot afford to consult a lawyer (local legal svcs will not look into this type of case.

If you are being charged with a crime and can not truly afford an attorney you should be provided with a public defender. It is imperative that you consult with an attorney in a matter as serious as this.
I understand that money can be an issue, but you and your boyfriend are facing serious accusations that can impact the rest of your life and the life of your child. You need to have an attorney to help you address this matter and look out for your interests.

Just your child's word is enough for charges to be filed, even if your child made contradictory statements. The bruises may add to the case against you.
Whether you can afford it or not, you need a lawyer. You could be facing the loss of your child and your freedom.
