Your court date is likely your arraignment. You'll enter a plea (not guilty), the judge will inquire as to your lawyer (whether you want to privately hire a lawyer or seek the public defender), and the court will set additional court dates. If you have a lawyer prior to the arraignment then he/she can file paperwork on your behalf so you appearance is waived. Since it is a first offense you may be eligible for some sort of pretrial diversion program where the charges will be dismissed when you successfully complete it. However, it is advisable for you to have a lawyer to review the evidence before you accept any sort of diversion or plea offer.
