Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My brother in law stole my rings and pawned them. Only 2 of 3 were found in a pawn shop. He "said" in his confession when he stolen the rings there was on 2 and the door was already opened (meaning my bedroom door. But we kept it locked). On the other hand my mother in law (Whom we lived with at the time) admitted to an officer when we first reported them stolen she had went into the room to turn things off (I seriously do not believe her). But also in my brother in laws confession he said if anyone was to have it it would be my mother in law. We tried to report the rings stolen to her homeowners insurance and they were speaking to my husband (her son) but now they refuse to say anything and my mother in law says she does not have theft insurance. She insists that all the rings were "lost" yet they found 2 of the pawned in his name. When we told her he was arrested she says to just drop everything cause he is family. In the mean time the detective said the 3rd ring was never pawned because she put it into some system and if it comes up she will be notified. IN the mean time I want to be compensated for it. I know I can sue my mother in law since it is her house and she admitted to entering our bedroom and leaving it un-locked. She has been caught in several lies through this whole process. How can I go about getting Pain & Suffering or mental anguish? She has lied to the home owners and told different stories to everyone. Oh Did I mention my brother in law had already ran on bail in Texas and they let him out on bail because it didn't show up in the system???? Yeah I am in a mess. But I want the value of the ring and yet also maybe try to get where it is but also ask for mental anguish because of how she is protecting my brother in law with Grand Theft, lying to a pawn broker and another charge....... All felonies..... I just need to know what all I can sue for. And make sure I cover my butt since I know she has been caught. What proof should I include. The investigator has so much right now and he did confess but only to 2 out of the 3 when they were all 3 sitting on top of each other. Nothing else was stolen. Nothing of my husband's..... Nothing else..... Maybe get her on lying???? Help???

This is not really a criminal law question. You should post this question under the civil litigation section.
