Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Expungement of Felony Criminal Record

The reason for this letter is to inquire about getting something possibly expunged from my criminal record. About five years ago I was arrested and charged with grand theft of a bicycle, possession of burglary tools, and loitering and prowling. These are third degree felonies - making me a convicted felon. I entered a plea of guilty in exchange for a more lenient sentence. I spent 9 months at the Pompano Stockade and completed one year of house arrest. I was told by a supervisor at the public defenders office that it should not be a problem to have these charges removed from my record and all I needed to do was speak with a criminal attorney who would write a letter on my behalf and have it taken care of.

I spoke to an attorney in Fort Lauderdale who told me I may be able to have the bicycle theft charge sealed, but not expunged. He also said that the charge for possession of burglary tools could neither be expunged nor sealed.

I am looking for a second opinion. Is there anything I can do to have these charges taken off my record?
